I first came to know this 2 couple when i was in kindy where dad always drove us to Sekama police quarters to visit this family. Their home was on the 3rd floor of the flat, always clean and tidy. But this family was so closed to us as mentioned by mom and dad, that in late 60s' that was also our home. At that time, mom was pragnent her 2nd child and these couple were the one whom had taken a good care of her and dad. Everyhing from foods to loundry, they were the one whom took care of it. Not to say they have no children, actually, they had more than 3 at that period. This couples were our grandparents, not too related, but somwhere on the family tree, we were!
Some years later, aki (grandpa), at that time was a sargeant of police, got transfered to Limbang. I could still remember how hard it was to be seperated with each other and tears were shed at the old airport Kuching. 10 years later, they came back to Kuching, settled down at the Tabuan Jaya Police complex. At that time, we were staying at Batu Kawa Police Camp and finally in '87 dad bought a house at Taman Linang, Tabuan Jaya, near to aki.
After aki retiered in early 90s' they moved to kampung and later, he was being appointed to be the Head of the village and 3 years ago, he was the Penghulu of the Padawan area. Somehow, to me, akik and inik was one of the reason and something to looking forward to seeing, if we go back to kampung. Swimming in the river would always be the number 1!...
Since i don't have grandparents (both from mom and dad's side), i alwasy treated them as mine! In '96, aki became the witness to my sister, Doli, engegement and a year later akik and inik were able to witnessed the wedding at the Grand Continental Hotel. I thought it would be the same in my case but i was wrong.
2 years ago, inik (grandma) died. And yesterday, 6th February 09, akik followed her. I was so sad that they would not be able to witnessed my wedding ceremony. I know that akik will inform inik when he sees her somewhere in heaven that i am already enggaged and i know she would be very happy.
I now that even now, both of them are sitting on Jesus' lap to praise and worship HIM, our mighty creator.
Till then, akik, inik, thank you for all the memories and i love you! The picture below was taken somewhere in 2005 at their home in Kpg Bunuk.
